Texas Roadhouse rolls are puffy squarish dinner rolls served before meals at the Texas Roadhouse steakhouse restaurants. They are served with cinnamon honey butter and are known for their pillowy soft fluffy interior. The dough is an enriched dough made with eggs, butter, and honey which makes for rich tasting rolls that bake up soft.

The simple square shape no doubt was an invention of bakers needing to make many many rolls for service in very little time, but it also makes these rolls excellent for splitting into sandwich buns or soaking up steak juices.

Why You’ll Like My Texas Roadhouse Rolls Recipe

  1. Less sugar: I find the original rolls far too sweet even before you add in the cinnamon honey butter. There is still a 1/4 cup of honey in my rolls; this amount strikes the right balance for me between having a sweet roll and one that tastes cloying.
  2. Anyone can make these: Square shaped rolls require no dough handling skills. If you’ve been intimidated by yeast doughs before, this is a fantastic beginner recipe.
  3. Big batch baking: This recipe makes 24 rolls, which is plenty for eating today and freezing the rest for later. Got a big family dinner like Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter coming up? A few minutes of work will stock up your freezer with rolls that are a million times better than store-bought anything.

Preheat the oven to 325 F (163 C). Place frozen rolls on a sheet tray and bake for 10-15 minutes.
  2. For softer rolls: Wrap the frozen rolls in foil first before heating in the 325 F oven for 10-15 minutes. The foil will seal in some of the moisture and help steam the rolls, making for a softer, fluffier roll.

Expert Tips for Making the Best Copycat Texas Roadhouse Rolls

  1. Do NOT add more flour when making the dough: Whether you knead the dough by hand or by machine do NOT add more flour. Most of the tackiness will go away as the dough rises. Enriched doughs are always tacky after you’ve kneaded them by nature. As the dough rises, the dough absorbs the liquids, taking away most of the tackiness.
  2. Use a pizza cutter: While you can use a bench scraper

. Bench scrapers do a better job cutting dough on counters!
  3. Brush hot rolls with melted butter: When you brush rolls with butter, they will get almost as shiny as if you glazed them with egg before baking, plus the melted butter will keep the crust soft. These are not crusty rolls, so the butter is the key to getting that pillowy soft roll you’re dreaming of.
