Puff Pastry Garlic Bread: Ultra Quick Appetizer

Puff pastry garlic bread might be my easiest garlic bread yet. Spread with cream cheese spiked with garlic and herbs and sprinkled with your favorite cheese, these little cheesy garlic sticks only take about 10 minutes to get into the oven. When you’re short on time but need a quick easy appetizer or side dish that’ll make a big impact, this recipe is it.

Got a Last Minute Football Party?–Make This

We’re huge fans of homemade garlic bread in my house. From Potato Garlic Knots, Homemade Texas Toast, and Super Soft Garlic Bread Rolls to Garlic Pull Apart Bread, the only wrong way to garlic bread is to not have it at all.

Still, puff pastry makes this version so very very easy and quick. If you can roll, you can make this, and when you do, you’ll be rewarded with ultra savory light crispy sticks of garlicky goodness. Best yet, you can get it in and out of the oven in under 30 minutes. As accessible and easy as my other garlic bread recipes are, this one will win every single time on speed.

Oh, and the texture is oh so lovely. Light airy pieces of puff pastry will never become uninteresting to eat, especially if you’ve left a gift for your future self in your freezer in the way of Homemade Puff Pastry.

Puff Pastry Garlic Bread Is:

  • So easy to make
  • An excellent last minute appetizer
  • Buttery, garlicky, herby, cheesy
  • Great with drinks
  • So light and crisp

Places You Should Take Puff Pastry Garlic Bread

  • Superbowl parties
  • Tailgating
  • Church potlucks
  • Oktoberfest

Ingredients for Puff Pastry Garlic Bread

  • Puff pastry: frozen is just fine, though I’ll still advocate for you to stock your freezer with homemade puff pastry!
  • Cheese: grated jack, cheddar, or havarti are all nice here.
  • Cream Cheese: acts as glue for all the good stuff and adds some extra creamy flavor.
  • Dill: parsley or cilantro are also good, but dill is really nice with the garlic
  • Garlic: freshly grated for extra punch

How to Make Puff Pastry Garlic Bread

  1. Roll: Roll out a sheet of puff pastry into a thin layer about the size of your sheet pan.
  2. Mix: Use a fork to smash together the garlic, dill, and cream cheese.
  3. Spread: Spread out the cream cheese over the pastry in a thin layer. Scatter over the cheese.
  4. Bake: Bake the pastry at 400 F (200 C) until the cheese is patched with brown spots and the pastry is light and crispy–about 16-20 minutes.
  5. Cut: Immediately cut up the pastry into 12 rectangular pieces or smaller squares if you’d prefer.

Ways to Mix Up Puff Pastry Garlic Bread

  1. Spices: Sprinkle on your favorite steak or BBQ seasoning, black pepper or paprika. Curry powder or za’atar would also be really good.
  2. Cheese: Almost any cheese you can grate will make awesome puff pastry garlic bread. Parmesan and Pecorino are the obvious choices, but Gouda, Butterkäse, or Manchego are all good.
  3. Chile Lime: Mix in the zest of a lime with the juice of one half of the same lime into the cream cheese along with a teaspoon of your favorite chile powder. Use cilantro here and a Mexican cheese blend.

Spices and Cheese: Feel free to add in any flavors that you’d like here.  Your favorite steak seasoning, BBQ rub, chile powder, curry, black pepper, or paprika are all great additions, and really any cheese you can grate works here.  Mozzarella, parmesan, pecorino, havarti, gouda, or manchego are all delicious choices for the cheese.
